Kingston Junior Drama Company offers high quality creative drama leading to public performances. The minimum age for admission is 10. The company was established in 2007 to provide opportunities for local children with a strong interest, enthusiasm and potential in drama. We produce a production at the end of each 10 week term, and so plenty of commitment and energy is required. Previous productions: Paradise, Rough Play, Rediscovering Alice, Departures, The Fairyland Trials, The Family From One End Street, The Runaways, Wishes, My Universe, The Forest, Detention Room, The Secret Garden Project, Not Just A Number, Shadows, The Chimes and Zoe's Big Day.
Members of the company have worked professionally in theatre and television. Members of the company appeared, as flower fairies, in Peter Hall’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, starring Dame Judi Dench; Kc was one of the presenters of Tricky TV on CITV; Ollie has made numerous professional stage appearances - including pantomimes with David Hasslehoff and Dame Edna! Inka has worked extensively as a model, for top brands such as Boden and Gucci, and has also appeared in television commercials.Two of our members appeared in the West End production of 'Scrooge.' Other professional theatre appearances by KJDC members include George’s Marvellous Medicine for The Birmingham Stage Company, Stephen Unwin's production of A Christmas Carol and some of our boys appeared as evacuees in Goodnight Mr Tom, starring Oliver Ford-Davies. Former members have worked in numerous television commercials, photoshoots and voiceovers.
Kingston Junior Drama Company's young actors also regularly appear in films for the Kingston University M.A Film Course including the short film China Doll, directed by graduate Irai Pizania, which recently won two awards at the Athens Digital Film Festival.
The company is run by David Lawson Lean. David is a freelance Drama Practitioner and Children’s Playwright. He has directed the company since its foundation in 2007.
Kingston Junior Drama Company is proud to be a member of Kingston Arts, and performed at the Kingston Arts Salon in 2009 and 2012.
Enrolment is limited and costs £80.00 per term.
